Geo-Awareness & the Cloud Just because your data is housed "in the cloud" doesn't mean that earthbound geography can simply be ignored. And while the World Wide Web promises a global and ubiquitous technology, location still matters.
Obviously, data is still housed in a particular place, even if that place is "in the cloud." And while major cloud providers have data centers worldwide - often with locations across several sites in Asia, Europe, and North America - the specific location of th... #Analysis Zobacz wpis

iPad Gains in the Enterprise, But Security Still an Issue It's clear that Apple's initial success with the iPad is spilling into the enterprise.

Your Midyear Startup Checkup: Are You On Target? 2010 is over half over, which makes it a good time to reflect on the year so far and revise your startup's plans - if necessary, of course - for the year ahead. Are you on target? Have your targets changed? And if so, have you adjusted course to compensate?
Mark MacLeod posted his thoughts on the midyear point on the Startup CFO blog today, noting that it can be difficult for startups to establish accurate targets. Even so, he notes, there are two ... #Analysis Zobacz wpis

Drinking Its Own Champagne - Amazon Moves Its Own Enterprise to the Cloud The Amazon online retail service and Amazon Web Services have little or nothing to do with each other but the idea that the company's IT department would not use cloud computing almost seems implausible.
Or does it? Amazon IT is really like any other IT department. It has a mix of different systems and processes that have developed over the past several years. It's a global organization that has thousands of employees who ... #Analysis Zobacz wpis

Going Alone: Thoughts on the Single-Person Startup There are more than 20 million single-person businesses in the United States, comprising about three-quarters of all businesses, according to Inc, citing recent Census data. But despite those numbers, the notion persists that founding a business alone is more difficult and more risky than founding it with two or more people.

Making the Move to a "Premium" Service After many months of rumor and speculation, Hulu announced yesterday that it will be launching a subscription service. Hulu Plus will give users access to more content on more platforms for a monthly fee of $9.99. Woot + Amazon = Real-Time Social Shopping Shopping giant Amazon bought online auction phenomenon Woot today, and given the relative sizes of the companies, it can only be a move made with long-term Amazon strategy in mind. Thoughts on Foursquare and Its Funding Location based social network Foursquare announced this afternoon that it's raised $20 million in very high-profile venture capital. We wrote yesterday about why people like to use mobile apps to declare their off-line location: they say it's for serendipitous connections, tracking friends and family, for the gameplay and for recording their own personal histories like a lazy diary. It's probably also a way for many people to brag about the places they eat... #Analysis Zobacz wpis
