Things seemed both brighter and more confusing today with China and the U.S. playing nice with each other at an ASEAN meeting in Hanoi. But will things stay rosy for very long? After all that has happened recently it does seem somewhat implausible that this will last for very long.

China is embroiled in still another territorial claim over islands in the China Sea. This time it is the Paracel Islands which are claimed also by Vietnam and Taiwan.
